Riga Stradina University (RSU) was founded in1950 on the basis of Faculty of Medicine of the State University of Latvia. Later the Institute was renamed as Medical Academy of Latvia. Within nearly ten years the Academy had turned into a university. The University has been named after his founder and one of the most prominent Latvian surgeon Pauls Stradiņš. In 2018, according to the study of Kantar TNS, international agency of marketing research, RSU was recognized as the best university among 10 largest Latvian higher education establishments.

Study at RSU

Nine faculties offer an extensive choice of 68 academic degree levels: bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in health care and social sciences. RSU also offers programmes in professional development. The University is educating and training more than 9,000 students each year.

Riga Stradina University includes Red Cross Medical College and International Student Department where 2,200 foreign students are studying.

International collaboration

RSU pays a great attention to the development of international cooperation, collaboration and interaction. Under the auspices of Erasmus + programme students and teachers of RSU can go to study from 3 to 12 months in different European countries, and foreign students and professors can study for exchange a full semester or academic year in Riga Stradina University. Students, alumni and graduates of RSU can gain a work experience in one of eight universities and/or clinics under the auspices of Nordplus Programme.

Dormitory or hostel accommodation

RSU has two dormitories for foreign students.

Student Hostel Dzirciems Darza str. 5, Riga, LV-1007


Newly built 3-story student dormitory is situated close to the main building of RSU, on right bank of the River Daugava in the administrative district “Dzirciems”.


Dormitory includes 135 rooms of A, B and C categories. Four rooms are adapted to suit students with disabilities, special and mobility needs, and health issues. The interior is most hostel rooms reminiscent of a luxury hotel than you'd ever expect from dorm accommodation. The room category A includes living room, kitchen area and bathroom with combined shower and toilet.

Cost of rent

The prices vary according to the category of the room and the number of students assigned to the room. They are ranged from 225 EUR to 390 EUR per month.

What groceries and eateries are located around hostel?

In a few minutes of walk from the hostels there many shops (Rimi, Mego, Maxima) and café. The bus stop is located in 3-minute walking distance. The bus will take students in any part of Riga.

Student hostel Agenskalns Marupes str. 17, Riga, LV-1002


The hostel is located in the administrative district “Agenskalns”. It is a 10-minute drive from the main building of RSU. The hostel includes 200 single and double rooms for 600 students. Rooms total area is varied from 10 to 28 m².

Rent prices

The hostel offers 7 accommodation options. Depending on the option and the number of people in the room, the monthly rent is varied from 82 EUR to 390 EUR.

What shops, café, and other attractions are close to the hostel?

Many shops, eating places, and public service facilities are situated nearby hostel. The Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital and public transport stops are within 5-minute walking distance from the hostel. It will take 25-minute ride to get to Riga Old Town.

General Information

Rooms are fully furnished, equipped with refrigerator and vented hood. Each room features shared toilet and shower.

What is included into rent price?

Cost of rent is fixed and includes utility payments – heating, electricity, water, Wi-Fi internet, other administrative and maintenance expenses.

What else is offered to the tenants?

Students are offered:
